He was born July 20, 1930, on the family farm in Sylvan Grove to Henry and Ella (Haesemeyer) Wenthe. He was baptized July 28, 1930, and confirmed in 1944 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sylvan Grove. Oscar graduated from Sylvan Grove High School in 1949. He was a Korean War veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. On Sept. 25, 1955, Oscar was united in marriage to Marilyn Kay Wiley. Oscar and Marilyn worked together as florists for over 35 years in Salina, having owned and operated Flowers by Oscar until their retirement in 2001. He was a lifetime member of both the VFW Post 1432 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ella Wenthe; brothers, Henry Jr., Lawrence, Leo, Marvin, Robert, Allen and Glenn Edward; sisters, Adeline, Ora, Doris, and Arelia; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Hall Wenthe. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sylvan Grove, followed by burial in the Sylvan Grove Cemetery with military rites by Sylvan Grove American Legion honor guard.
