Description	:	Orthaniel Orlando Orner, oldest son of Benjamin E. and Hanna Orner, was born at Martinsville, Indiana, November 2, 1862, and passed away at Stratton, Nebraska, June 26, 1938, age 75 years, 7 months, and 24 days. In his late teens, 1885, he moved to Nelson, Nebraska, and after a few years he and his brother Joseph took up adjoining homesteads, south of Wauneta, Nebraska. Read More	Orthaniel Orlando Orner, oldest son of Benjamin E. and Hanna Orner, was born at Martinsville, Indiana, November 2, 1862, and passed away at Stratton, Nebraska, June 26, 1938, age 75 years, 7 months, and 24 days. In his late teens, 1885, he moved to Nelson, Nebraska, and after a few years he and his brother Joseph took up adjoining homesteads, south of Wauneta, Nebraska. He later bought his brother's interests, and has operated these, and other nearby lands continously for the fifty-three years that have gone. Mr. Orner was a real pioneer in every sense of the word, industrious, thrifty, frugal, always keeping his own cousel, ever looking forward-thinking of what would be best for his community and his country in the years to come. While he traveled extensively at times, and was a real nature lover, he spent most of his life alone with nature, and his books, magazines and papers, and in later years, the radio. Always well informed on National affairs, as well as local government-he "thought things through." A supporter of all churches in his neighborhood, an early advocate of Rural Mail Delivery, telephones, and general education. Always a worker and very active up to within a few weeks of his death. He leaves to mourn his passing, six sisters, Mrs. Annie Francis, Miss Lettie Orner and Mrs. Dollie Portwood of Nelson, Nebr., Mrs. Nellie Wright of Brooklyn, Mich., Mrs. Mary Griffith of Greeley, Colo., and Mrs. Ida Whiting of Wood River, Nebr.; and two brothers, Joseph H. of Nelson, Nebr., and William B. of Pismo Beach, California; fifteen nieces and nephews, and scores of friends and business acquaintances in various western Nebraska communities. Hail and farewell to a Pioneer, who truly advanced the country and the times. Funeral services for the deceased were held at Wauneta Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Bardsley and here on Wednesday afternoon at two-thirty at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Portwood. Rev. V.R. Daniels, pastor of the Methodist church, was in charge. The interment was in the Nelson cemetery beside the deceased's mother, Mrs. Hanna H. Orner. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Whiting and children of Wood River, Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Bardsley of Wauneta, and Mr. and Mrs. Nate Bragg of Guide Rock.
