Kirby, 89, died of natural causes Saturday, June 4, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls. A vigil service is 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Stanford. Patrick was born March 10, 1922, to Roy J. and Julia M. (McAllister) Kirby in Belt. He graduated in 1939 from Geyser High School, and then attended commercial college in Great Falls for a year. Pat served in the United States Marine Corps for three years and five days, up until his honorable discharge, during which time he was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked as a banker for 38 years at the Basin State Bank, and served as bank president for 21 years, until his retirement in 1984. He was actively involved in the American Legion, Commercial Club, was an honorary member of the Stampede Club, past president of Independent Bankers of Montana, the Judith Basin County Fair Board and many other community organizations and events. Besides his love for family and friends, he loved his cattle and horses. He established Shooting Arrow Angus in the early 1970s. Pat had an appreciation for old cars and kept several in his own collection. His love for horsepower carried into his enthusiasm for horse racing. He owned several classic cars, as well as many horses, in his lifetime. He married the love of his life, Magdalene M. VonBank, on June 25, 1947, in Buffalo, N.D. Later that year, they moved to Stanford, where they made their home for 63 years. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren, as well as the youth of the area, partake in school and community activities. Pat is survived by his wife of 63 years, Magdalene M. Kirby of Stanford; sons Mike (Mary) Kirby of Stanford, Jeff Kirby of Helena, and Ken Kirby of Bozeman; a brother, Tom (Nina) Kirby of Great Falls; and six wonderful grandchildren, Brandon Kirby, Kellen Kirby, Heather Kirby, Ian Kirby, Kevin Kirby and Jessica Kirby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Julia Kirby; brothers Ed and Joe Kirby; and sisters Mary Petesch and Helen Stewart.
