He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church, Indiana Hand Corn Husking Association, Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Association, Maumee Valley Antique Steam and Gas Association, Florida Fly Wheeler Club, Massey Collections Association and the Defiance American Legion. He was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Defiance County, OH, to Andrew and Mary Cooley Hardy. He married Patsy Ashbaugh on June 19, 1954, at Christian Union Church in Mandale, OH. His wife survives. Additional survivors include three sons, Terry (Lori) Hardy and Mark (Mary) Hardy, both of Huntington, and Randall (Julie) Hardy, of Roanoke; five brothers, Glen Hardy, Charles Hardy, Orville Hardy, Wayne Hardy and James Hardy; and eight grandchildren, Abbie, Katie, Mitchell, Bonnie, Jesse, Luke, Casey and Daniel. Calling is Wednesday, April 4, 2012, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Evansport Cemetery, Evansport, OH. Preferred memorials are gifts to the Arcola United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
