Description	:	Burlington Hawk-Eye Gazette", 11/10/1948: Paul Junkin, Fairfield, Dies Fairfield--Paul Sheridan Junkin, 81, long time newspaperman and former mayor of Fairfield, died of a heart attack Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the Jefferson County hospital. The son of W.W. and Elizabeth Junkin, he was born at Fairfield on Aug. 12, 1867. In October 1883, Junkin was married to Lucretia Marcy, who died about 2 years ago. They were married at the parental W.W. Marcy home, in Fairfield. Junkin's father was the founder of the Fairfield Ledger, and he and Junkin's elder brother, Charles Junkin, operated it for many years.... The son of W.W. and Elizabeth Junkin, he was born at Fairfield on Aug. 12, 1867. In October 1883, Junkin was married to Lucretia Marcy, who died about 2 years ago. They were married at the parental W.W. Marcy home, in Fairfield. Junkin's father was the founder of the Fairfield Ledger, and he and Junkin's elder brother, Charles Junkin, operated it for many years. Junkin then took the paper over, eventually selling it to the late Don McGriffin. Junkin also worked on newspapers at Orange City, Corning, Creston, Bedford, Chariton and Albia. He served as mayor for 4 years in the late '30s and early '40s. Junkin belonged to the Elks club for many years, and was also affiliated with the Rotary, Country and Wit & Wisdom clubs. He helped organize and was the first president of the Iowa Press association. He was the last member of his family, and his only survivor is George Archer, who was reared by the Junkin family. The body is at the Monger funeral home.
