Description	:	Pauline Marie Harkins, the daughter of Franz and Pauline (Thomas) Langer, was born on March 16, 1907 six miles south west of Superior, Nebraska in Jewell County, Kansas She passed away on August 29, 2009 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society in Superior at the age of 102 years, 5 months and 13 days. Pauline attended the Triumph District rural school in Kansas south of Superior and graduated from Superior High School. She attended summer school at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She taught school in Cherry County in the Sandhills for seven years. She returned to Superior in 1931 and was united in marriage to Cecil Harkins. To this union was born two daughters. Cecil passed away suddenly in 1946 She then went to work for Emmett Sheets at Valley Lumber as their bookkeeper for 23 years. For many years she was an active member of the Superior Professional Women's Club, holding all the local offices and serving as district director. She was one of the organizers and the first president of the Superior Unit of the Nebraska Parliamentarians Association. She was active in civic affairs, serving as a member of the first Superior Planning Commission. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Olive Chapter #63 Order of the Eastern Star. Pauline was also a member of the Nuckolls County Retired Teachers Association, membership chairman of the AARP, volunteer of the Adult Basic Education Association with Central Community College, Nuckolls County Extension member, Neighborhood Club member, Valley View Club member. She was always proud of her completion of the Dale Carnegie Course. She was a former president of the United Methodist Women and a 60 year member of the Superior United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cecil and seven brothers, Leo, Carl, Clay, Roy, Glen, Albert and Robert. She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Marie Jorgensen of Ogallala, NE and Avis Carol Shaw of Superior; five grandchildren, Nita Jones & her husband Ken of Omaha, Nebraska, Nina Jorgensen of Ogallala; Jerry Jorgensen & his wife Sheila of North Platte; Stephanie Shaw- Gates & her husband Todd of South Lyon, MI and Timothy Shaw of Omaha; ten great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 3, 2009 from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior with Pastor Dorthea Fairbanks officiating. Pallbearers were Time Shaw, Jerry Jorgensen, Ken Jones, Jay Jones, Todd Gates, and Jered Jorgensen. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior Nebraska. Memorials may go in care of the Superior United Methodist Church Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska was in charge of the arrangements.
