Langer, son of Franz Joseph and Pauline Thomas Langer, was born July 17, 1909, on a farm southwest of Superior in Jewell County. He was raised on the fam- ily farm. He attended Olive Hill School and was a graduate of Su- perior High School. He was united in marriage to Frieda Grace Harkins July 15, 1933, at Mankato. They lived on a farm in Jewell County until March 1943 when they moved to a farm northeast of Superior, known as the Twin Barns. He continued to maintain the farm and cattle operation. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 2197, Eagles Lodge No. 3101, Superior, Hereford Cattleman's Association, county commiltee- man for the ASCS and the school board. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Leo, Clay, Carl, Albert and Robert. Survivors include his wife of 60 years; four daughters, DeVee Smalley, Superior, Crystal Ahrens, Torringion, Wyo., Frona Wall, Lincoln, Mrs. Alvin Schott (Judy), Nelson; two sons, Stephen Langer, Upton, Wyo., Joe Jay Langer, Pirmasens, Germany; a brother, Roy Langer, Guide Rock; a sister, Pauline Harkins, Superior. Superior Express September 16, 1993 Glen Walter Langer, son of Franz Joseph and Pauline Marie (Thomas) Langer, was born on a farm southwest of Superior, Nebraska, in Jewell County, Kansas on July 17, 1909. "Pidge" as he was known by all passed away Tuesday, September 14, 1993, at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska, at the age of 84 years, one month and 28 days. He was raised on the family farm and attended Olive Hill School and was a graduate of Superior High School. "Pidge was a member of Elks Lodge #2197, Eagles Lodge #3101, both of Superior, the Hereford Cattleman's Association, County Committeeman for the ASCS Office and the school board. On July 15, 1993, in Mankato, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Frieda Grace Harkins. This union was blessed with six children. Glen and Frieda lived on a farm in Jewell County Kansas until March of 1943 when they moved to a farm northeast of Superior, known as the Twin Barns. He continued to maintain the farm and his cattle operation. He took great pride in raising Hereford cattle and breeding horses. "Pidge" and Frieda celebrated their 60yh wedding anniversary July 15, 1993. Preceding him in death were his parents and five brothers, Leo, Clay, Carl, Albert and Robert. Survivors include his wife, Frieda, of the Good Samaritan Center, Nelson, Nebraska; four daughters, DeVee Smalley of Superior, Nebraska, Crystal Ahrens of Torrington, Wyoming, Frona Wall of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Judy Schott and her husband, Alvin, of Nelson, Nebraska; two sons, Stephen Langer and his wife, Janice Lee, of Upton, Wyoming, and Joe Jay Langer and his wife, Kathleen, of Pirmasens, Germany; one brother, Roy Langer of Guide Rock, Nebraska; one sister, Pauline Harkins of Superior, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren, Debra, Deon and Cecil Smalley, Julie Ahrens Holgate, John Ahrens, Jacqueline Ahrens, Sandra Schott Schendt, Susan Schott, Sheri Schott Watts, Ross, Clint, Gail, Matthew and Trista Langer, Jeffrey and Randall Wall; eight great grandchildren, Jared and Bryan Holgate, Ayme Ahrens, Jacob and Joshua Wall, Lance and Deidre Schendt and Camron Watts; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 18, 1993, at 10 a.m. from Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior with Rev. Louis Baptist officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Steve Freed, singing "How Great Thou Art: and "Cattle Call" with Carlita Price as organist. Casketbearers were John Ahrens, Ross Langer, Matthew Langer, Randall Wall, Cecil Smalley, Clint Langer, Jeff Wall, Ronald Schendt and Danny Holgate. Honarary casketbearers were Harold Carpenter, John Ray, Leo Blackstone, Leonard Rempe, Les Erickson and Dale Adcock. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery north of Superior. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements. A memorial has been established to the Nelson Good Samaritan Center.
