Mrs. Polly Brown died Saturday at her home, 428 South East street, after a long illness. She was born near New Lexington, Ohio, November 28, 1819. She was married to William H. Skinner December 5, 1848, and he died the following year. In 1849 she married Joseph Brown who died August 10, 1901. Skinner. ********************* Emporia Weekly Gazette, Thursday, July 14, 1910 Mrs. Polly Brown Dead. Mrs. Polly Brown died Saturday at her home, 428 South East street, after a long illness. She was born near New Lexington, Ohio, November 28, 1819. She was married to William H. Skinner December 5, 1848, and he died the following year. In 1849 she married Joseph Brown who died August 10, 1901. She lived in Illinois until 1868, when she came with her husband and family to Emporia. In 1858 she became a member of the Primitive Baptist church and adhered to this faith and teaching during the remainder of her life. She was the mother of six children. Her one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Cowen, died in 1876. The five sons survive: W.H. Skinner, of Bethany, Mo.; Nemuel and Matthew Brown, of Emporia; Nathaniel Brown, of Madison, and Joseph Brown, of Arkansas City. Mrs. Brown was a good woman of the pioneer type, who lived an earnest Christian life. The funeral was held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, from the home, 428 East street. The services were conducted by Rev. Edgar F. Riley.
