She died August 10, 1981, at the St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia, at the age of 75. Pear's mother was the first child to be born in Simpson, and this was her home for many years. As a young girl, Pearl and her family moved to Washington State for a few years, and then returned to Simpson, where she grew up and graduated from Simpson High School in 1926. She taught school for a few years, and later helped her mother operate a hospital in Simpson. On December 21, 1935, Pearl was united in marriage with E. Glenn Vernon at Beloit, and one son was born to this union. The family made their home in Simpson, and Pearl served as a cook at the Simpson High School for several years. Glenn died on March 22, 1977, and in 1978, Pearl moved to the Nicol Home in Glasco. Pearl was very proud of her grandchildren and took great pleasure in being with them. She was a member of the Simpson Baptist Church and a Past Matron and fifty year member of the O.E.S. Lodge of Simpson. Survivors include her son, Kenneth and wife, Diane of Newton; three grandchildren, Connie Sue, Mark Alan, and Christy Diane; and an uncle, Henry Asmussen of Leoti, Kansas. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 13 at the Dean Funeral Home, Glasco with Rev. John Grummon of the Simpson Baptist Church officiating. Vocal music was provided by Wilson Davis with Mrs. Carrol Righter as organist. The flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Woody Kethcart. Serving as casket bearers were Richard Anderson, George Gentry, John Gentry, Paul Grittman, Loren McClintock, and Jerome Shaffer. Interment was in the Glasco Cemetery.
