Comforted by friends, staff, and family during the final days, Mom's gentle spirit took over while her body succumbed to natural infirmities. Born on June 12, 1929, to William and Jennie (Gardipee) LaTray, Mom spent her childhood on the highline on the farm near Zurich or in the Chinook area. Mom had 12 siblings, including Clara, Paul (Bud), Orville, Donald, Joe, Ernest, Alice, Alex, John, Harold, Bobby, and Dorothy. When she was nine years old, her mother, Jennie, passed away, an event which was always a defining moment in Mom's life. In about 1948, Mom moved to Portland to be with her sister, Clara and attend cosmetology college. In 1949, Mom's brother Orville returned from construction work on Guam with a friend, Orville (Andy) Anderson and life's plans changed. Pearl married her lifetime partner, Andy, on June 4, 1949. For the next 15 years, Mom and Dad lived though out the Northwest while Dad worked construction and in Alaska while Dad worked for the Alaska railroad. Mom and Dad finally settled into their home on Lescantz Lane, west of Anaconda, in 1965. Aside from her household duties, Mom worked part-time at the Haufbrau, picked potatoes at Laudrevilles in the Deer Lodge Valley, cooked at the Anaconda Hospital cafeteria, and picked pinecones for the Forest Service while spending her free time with family and friends such as Nancy Green and Marian Grosvold. Many summers were spent camping with family at Badger Bay on Georgetown Lake. After Dad retired from the Berkeley Pit in 1983 (one of the last equipment operators to leave the Pit after they "shut off the pumps"), Mom and Dad enjoyed their home and family for a few years, often camping, and then began their annual snowbird pilgrimages to Laughlin, Quartzite, Yuma, and other retiree haunts. Over the years they graduated from a canvas tent, to a camper trailer, to a camper pickup, to a small RV, and finally to a large RV. They accumulated numerous treasured friends and memories during their annual jaunts. "Retiring" from snow birding in 2007, Mom and Dad enjoyed their home, grandchildren, and friends together. Mom and Dad loved to visit over a cup of coffee or a meal and visitors to their home and visits to other homes were frequent and numerous. Pearl was preceded by her husband Andy in 2012; all of her brothers and sisters except Alice and Harold; all of her in-laws (including notably Carol Lou (Anderson) LaTray), and grandson Trevor in 2007. Pearl is survived by sons, Bill (Patty) of East Helena, Orville Robert (Ceil) of Anaconda; grandchildren, Nicholas and Karla of Anaconda, Dana of Missoula, Kathryn of Warren, Mich., and Jacklyn (Will) of Conowingo, Md.; great-grandsons, Eathen and Blake; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In accordance with her wishes, Pearl's remains have been cremated and commingled with Andy's ashes and will be interred at Mount Olivet cemetery in Anaconda. Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in Hope Lutheran Church in Anaconda with Pastor Rob Nedbalek officiating. A reception at the church will follow the interment.
