Read More	Obituary: Pearl Turner, daughter of Cylon and Lillie Turner, was born July 21, 1883, on the farm where she was living at the time of her last illness. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Holsan, May 11, 1943, at the age of 59 years, 9 months and 20 days. She was baptized in infancy and later became a member of the Mission Creek United Presbyterian Church. While living near Bookwalter her membership was transferred to the Methodist Church there. May 4, 1902, she was united in marriage to Joseph E. Eastwood. To them five children were born, one of whom, Fairy, died in infancy. The children who mourn the loss of their mother are Mrs. Joe Holsan of Summerfield, Kansas, Joseph of Ventura, California, Howard of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Everette of the home. Mrs. Eastwood is also survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Floyd Chapin, of Republican City, Nebraska, and three grandchildren, Pvt. Wayne Chapin of Camp Cooke, California, Edwin Chapin of Republican City, and Sandra Lou Eastwood, who has brought much joy into her grandmother's life these later years. There also is surviving an aged aunt, Mrs. Martha Turner of Summerfield, one sister, Hazel, of Toledo, Ohio, and two brothers, Orville Turner and Howard Turner of Toledo. During her last illness she bore her suffering uncomplainingly, always thinking more of others than her own condition. In her life she was tireless in her devotion to her home, her husband and her children. She was a great lover of nature and took delight in her flowers and garden. By precept and example she taught industry and right living. It was of her kind that the wise man wrote: "She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband, also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excelleth them all. Funeral services were held May 17 in the United Presbyterian Church at Summerfield and interment was in the Pawnee City cemetery. Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Eastwood and Sandra Lou of Ventura, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Howard H. Eastwood of Battle Creek, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Jas. A. Eastwood and Janet of Mound Valley, Kans., Howard Turner of Toledo, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Black of Meade, and Mr. and Mrs. John Eastwood and Children of Westmoreland, Kansas. While making his sad journey home from Calif., her son, Joseph, gave expression to his sentiments in these lines: "The clock had struck eleven, Earth's lights were burning low; But more brightly up in heaven Lights celestial were aglow. For mother there had entered, no burdens now distress her In that land so bright and fair. No clouds will dim the vision Where mother now has gone; We are lonely here without her, The days are sad and long. Mother would not have us weep Since she has gone away; We know she would have us keep Lessons taught us day by day, To chasten and to guide us Along life's checkered way.
