Description	:	Peter Halverson, an old-time resident of Union County, and for the past eight years a resident of this city, passed away last Sunday afternoon, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 8 days. Brief services will be held at the home at one o'clock Sunday afternoon and the body will be taken to the Union Creek church where the funeral services will be conducted at three o'clock. Interment will be made in the Union Creek church cemetery beside the grave of his wife. Rev. A.M. McIntosh, assisted by Rev. Emil Johnson, will have charge of the services. Peter Halverson was born in Skien, Norway, Oct. 14, 1832 [NOTE: Stone has birth date as 10-12-1833.], where he resided until he reached the age of 20 years. He was a carpenter at sea for several years. He came to America in 1864 and settled in Chicago where he was united in marriage with Miss Caren Olson. In 1866 they moved to South Dakota and took a homestead in Union county, where he resided until the death of his wife in 1910. Following her death he moved to Hawarden and has since made his home here with his two daughters. Twelve children were born to this union, seven of whom are still living. They are: Mrs. G. Lanpop, Worthington, Minn.; Mrs. James Taggert, Chatsworth; Mrs. Carl Oden, Nora, S.D.; Mrs. Ned Oden, Content, Mont.; Mrs. M. Conway, Mrs. Lillian Westover and Miss Tolda Halverson of Hawarden. Mr. Halverson suffered a stroke of paralysis about a year and a half ago from which he never fully recovered. For some months he has been practically helpless, but he was patient and resigned through it all. He was a good neighbor and a kind father and when in health was ever ready to assist those in need. The sorrowing children have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement.
