The funeral was held here Tuesday afternoon at the home of his sister Mrs. Johanna Knoop, with Rev. Alvin H. Boettcher, local congregational Pastor in charge, and burial at Oneida cemetery. Pallbearers were Otto Hansen, Theodore Hansen, Will Knoop, Emil Knoop and Henry Knoop. Mr. Diers, a son of Nicholas and Margaret Diers was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany April 7, 1845, coming to America at the age of 20. He settled first at Davenport and some years later came to Traer, where he spent the remainder of his life. For many years he lived alone and worked as a day laborer, continuing active, despite his advanced age, until within few weeks of his death. He was a faithful workman and had a host of fiends. The decedent was one of a family of nine children, three of whom—a brother John Diers; a half-brother, Johannes Ralfs; and a sister—preceded him in death. Surviving, besides the sister in Traer already mentioned, are a half-sister, Mrs. Hans Hansen, of this place: and three half-brothers—Herman Ralfs of Alaska: Theodore Ralfs, of St. Paul, Minn.: and Will Ralfs, of Trosky, in the same state.
