He rallied nicely, however, and it was expected that he would continue to improve, but he suffered a relapse and rapidly grew worse until the end came in the early evening of last Friday. The deceased was born in Lindesberges Congregation, Sweden, Dec. 26, 1839. His mother died when he was eight years old, and at the age of fifteen, he lost his father. He was thus thrown upon his own resources and he was compelled to work his way through the early part of his life by hard knocks and deprivation. The only boots that he had as he went forth were those which his father had worn before death had taken him away. He bound himself out for a period, and we have listened with interest to the accounts of his trials. On one occasion, while clearing land his mittens were by accident burned in the fire, and he was compelled to work the balance of the winter season without any covering for his hands. In 1869, he came to America and settled at Wataga, Illinois. In 1880, he went to Nebraska where he stayed for three years but returned to Illinois. On August 16, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Maria Lundborg, and the couple set out at once for Dakota, reaching here in a covered emigrant wagon in September of the same year. He took the homestead where he and his family have lived ever since. To the union have been born three boys, namely Samuel, David, and Joel, who with the dovoted wife, now mourn the loss of a true husband and father. The decesed had three sisters in Sweden and a brother, at some point, in Nebraska, none of whom could be present at the funeral. The funeral services were held at the Brooklyn church Tuesday afternoon, following a short service at the house, and the remains of the pioneer patriot were laid to rest in the Brooklyn cemetery. The services would have been attended by a large company, but the very severe weather made it impossible for more than a few of the neighbors to attend. Those who were here from abroad were Charley Lundborg of Sioux City and Tilda Fahlberg of the same place. To the bereaved we would extend the sympathy of the entire community. We had known Mr. Fahlberg for a few years, and had learned to expect a word of good cheer, or a joke of some sort whenever we met. He had not reached the years of advanced age, and that he should now be taken away is a great bereavement to the ones that are left behind.
