CALLED TO REST. A shadow of gloom was cast over the entire community Wednesday morning when word was passed around that Peter Fankhauser has passed away. Mr. Fankhauser has been one of our most highly respected citizens and has been a resident of the community for years. He came to this country when but a boy and has watched the growth and development of the country from childhood. He followed the occupation of farming and has lived in the Nebraska neighborhood for a good many years prior to moving to town a short time ago. Mr. Fankhauser has been a very active man for his age and if he had any ailments no one ever knew of them as he was not the kind to complain. Death was due to pneumonia. Peter Fankhauser wass born at Bern, Switzerland September 21st, 1839 and died at their home in Bern, Kansas December 1st, 1920 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 21 days. He came from Switzerland to America with his parents and settled in the state of Ohio. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Stauffer on April 28th, 1877. This union was blessed with five sons and four daughter. One daughter died in infancy and one son, Charles died in service in France. One year after their marriage he moved to the farm in Nebraska where he lived and the family grew to manhood and womanhood. About three years ago he moved to Bern, Kansas. He has been a member of the Salem reformed church practically all his life and lived a clean upright life exemplifying his trust in God and tried to get others to place their trust and confidence in God. He leaves to mourn his departure a loving wife who is in frail health; Mrs. Minnie Hartung of DuBois; Mrs. Anne Meisner and Mrs. Emma Black of Douglas, Wyoming; Peter E., John, Albert and Jake of DuBois, Nebraska; a sister Mrs. Lehman and a brother John and 17 grandchildren. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the family in their bereavement. (Thanks goes to Researcher Barbara Schwartz for sending this obituary.)
