Fankhauser of Pawnee City, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fankhauser, was born on the family farm east of DuBois, July 27, 1891 and passed away Thursday May 10 at the Pawnee City Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City, as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident on April 26. Mr. Fankhauser was baptized as an infant and was received into membership at the Four Mile Evangelical and reformed (United Church of Christ) on April 19, 1908. He was united in marriage to Phillippina Hofmann, March 25, 1919. Four sons and two daughters were born to this union. The family resided on a farm east of DuBois for 37 years. In 1956 the farm was sold and Mr. and Mrs. Fankhauser moved to Pawnee City, Mr. Fankhauseer transferred his church membership to the United Presbyterian Church in Pawnee City. He was a loyal and faithful member of the church throughout his life. He contributed much of his time and energy to the ministry of the church as custodian. He was an effective witness for his Lord. He was always honest and upright in his dealings with others and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was well known for his good deeds and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Besdies his wife he is survived by four sons, Elden Charles of Brownville, Texas, Lee Roy of Ravenwood, Missouri, Darrel Dean of Milan, Illinois and John Allen of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Mrs. Ilene Ruith Smith and Mrs. Ardella May Lobsack, both of Lincoln; 0 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Emma Black of Centralia, Kansas; and a brother, Jacob Fankhauser of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by three sisters. Rose (who died in infancy), Anna and Minnie; three brothers, Charles (who died in France of wounds he received in WWII), Peter and Albert. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church in Pawnee City Saturday, May 12 with Rev. Donald Bump officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Harlow, Elmer Ast, Elmer Fankhauser, Ralph Marshall, John Glesman and Raymond Spier. The interment was in the Pawnee City cemetery. Wherry Mortuary in Pawnee City was in charge of arrangements. (Thanks goes to Researcher Barbara Schwartz for sending this obituary.)
