He grew up in that area and attended Defiance Public schools. On Jan 3 1924 he was united in marriage with Sallie Jedele. They farmed in the Manilla, Defiance and Denison areas until 1968 when they moved to Manilla. He was a lifelong member. of the United Methodist Church in Defiance and taught Sunday School for many years. Peter died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Nov 4 1978 at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 6 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter Lucille; 3 bothers, Walter, Arthur and Chester and 2 grandchildren Jill and Kipp Ahrenholtz. He is survived by his wife Sallie, 4 sons, Wesley and Virgene (Manilla); Willis and Dee, Leonard and Shirley and Jim and Karen (Denison); 4 daughters, Loretta and Phil Sheppard (Atlantic); Ruth and Gil Carstens (Dow City); Martha and Robert Camden (Phoenix); Marie and Frank Jennings (Seattle); 19 grandchildren; 2 brothers Louis and Edwin Ahrenholtz (Defiance); 1 sister Grace and Harold Benge (Manilla), and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Nov 6 at the United Methodist Church in Defiance, with the Rev Leon Wallace officiating. Vocalist were Bill, Harry, and Howard Ahrenholtz, with Paulette Rasmussen as organist. Pallbearers were Jeff Ahrenholtz, Don Carstens, Ted Ahrenholtz, Gordon Carstens, Chris Shepperd, Paul Shepperd, Tim Ahrenholtz and Dean Ahrenholtz. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Camden and Jay Ahrenholtz. Interment was in the Union Township cemetery (Defiance). The Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla was in charge of the arrangements.
