| Description | : | Peter was born in Reiligen, Germany to Jacob John and Christina Vogely (Vogele) on 24 July 1846. At age one, along with his parents, they came to the United States arriving in 1847. Peter contracted smallpox while on board ship. Sharks followed the old fashioned sailboat after the disovery of smallpox aboard ship. The rough sailors threatened to throw Peter overboard to halt the epidemic.
