He was born June 20, 1889, at Cedar Bluffs, the son of Claus and Mary Griebel Sievers. He attended rural schools and on Feb 5, 1914, he was married to Sophie Petersen. The couple farmed for three years in Cedar County and then near Wyoming until retiring and moving to town in 1946. He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. He is survived by his wife, Sophie, one son, Melvin of Wyoming; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one brother, Max, of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, five brothers and two sisters. Pallbearers were Robert Petersen, Raymond Rexroat, Edwin Updegraff, Elmer Petersen, Charles Popelka, and George Shover. Honorary pallbearers were their wives, Naomi Petersen, Esther-Mae Rexroat, Erma Updegraff, Betty Petersen, Ruth Popelka and Bernice Shover.
