He graduated from Glasco rural high school and was a student at Kansas State College at Manhattan at the time he entered the armed forces. Glasco Sun, Jan. 25, 1945, page 1: Memorial Services Held For Pfc. Leland R. Studt Memorial services were held Sunday, January 21, at 2:30 p.m. for Pfc. Leland R. Studt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Studt, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Rev. George W. Eller of Beloit officiating. Leland was born on December 30, 1922. Word received by his parents gives the date of his death as November 25, 1944; his place of burial as an American cemetery in Holland, where services were conducted by a Chaplain of the United States Army. Leland enlisted in the service of his country Dec. 15, 1942, while a student at Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas. He was called to report for duty on June 6, 1943, and assigned to the Coast Artillery. After spending a year in training in this branch of the service, he was transferred to the 175th Infantry Regiment. He sailed for service overseas August 6, 1944. Landing in England, he soon was sent to France, where he saw action at Brest; at the time of his death he was at the battle front in Germany. Leland was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran Church on February 18, 1943, confirmed March 21, 1937. He was a young man of sterling moral character, loved by all who knew him. Faithful in attendance at the services of his church; faithful to the teachings of his church and his Creator. He has joined the ranks of America's heroes who have made the supreme sacrifice for their country. ******************************************************* Glasco Sun, Oct. 28, 1948, page 1: Funeral Services For Pfc. Leland Ray Studt Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 25, for Pfc. Leland Ray Studt, at St. Paul's Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. Gene Smith. "Nearer My God, to Thee" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by a quartet composed of Arlo Gruenthal, Noel Vetter, Gene Smith, and Laura Olson, accompanied by Anna Olson. Pallbearers were Roy Halderson, Merville Birch, Lawrence Berndt, Kenneth Grittman and Duane Gehrke. Flower bearers were Eva Henning, Mrs. Fred Jilka and Mrs. Bill Burnett. Interment was in Glasco cemetery, with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars conducting the commitment services. Griffith Funeral Home was in charge. Leland Ray Studt was born Dec. 30, 1922, and lived his entire life in this community before his enlistment into the service. He attended the Glasco schools, graduating from high school in 1940. At the time of his enlistment into the army, Dec. 15, 1942, Leland was attending KSAC at Manhattan. On June 6, 1943, at the close of the school term, he reported for duty and was assigned to the Coast Artillery in which branch he received training for one year. He was then transferred to the 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division, and sailed for overseas on Aug. 6, 1944. From England, he went to France, where he saw action at Brest, and was then sent to the battle front in Germany. Word received gave the date of his death as Nov. 25, 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star award for his heroic action. He was buried in the American Military cemetery at Margraten, Holland. Under the direction of J. Heuseen, Catholic Father, of the people of Holland, as an expression of gratitude for the heroic liberators of their country, adopted the graves of the soldiers buried in this cemetery. Leland's grave was adopted by J. Houben, Steenweg, Holland. Leland was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and remained faithful to her teachings. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Studt, his grandfather, Mr. Philip Studt, aunts and uncles and many other relatives and friends.
