They had eight children, six of whom were still living at the time of his death in 1910 (not 1911 as engraved on his headstone). Note: of the eight children of George Washington Reed and Philinda Beggs Nott Reed/Parsons there are two that were not named in the obituary for GWR; of the six that were named who survived all but Mrs. Charles Lee are accounted for. Any clarification about the remaining children would be appreciated. Note: the obituary for Philinda stated that they had seven children. Sigh. Perhaps one child was overlooked when her obitary was written or submitted for publication. ----------- Philinda then married Robert Michael Parsons on June 16, 1911 (sic. June 17 per her obit, but 16th in marriage records) in Jefferson County, Iowa. They were co-boarders for a number of years; she being the mother of a number of children already according to the 1900 & 1910 US Census reports. The circumstances of their marriage are not known. ----------- Note: an Evergreen cemetery listing had her DOD as being October 7, 1919. Her obituary was published on October 7, 1919 and provides that her death occurred that morning. The Fairfield Daily Journal Tuesday, October 7, 1919 Pg. 3 Col. 3 & 4 MRS. MIKE PARSONS DIED AT HER HOME EARLY THIS MORNING Mrs. Mike PARSONS, one of the earlier settlers of Jefferson county, died at her home on West Jackson street at 8:10 o'clock this morning. Her death was due to complication of diseases. Mrs. PARSONS came to Fairfield in 1866 and has made this her home ever since. She was a woman who made friends everywhere by her kind acts and words and was highly esteemed by her neighbors and acquaintances. Mrs. PARSONS was 73 years, five months and five days of age. She was born in Morgan county, Ohio, May 2, 1846. She was married to George REED of Oquaka, Illinois in 1864, he having preceeded her in death. To this union were born seven children, one dying in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. George SAMMONS, dying several years ago. A son and four daughters survive the mother, as follows: Perrin REED, Mrs. Charles LEE, Mrs. William LEATHERS, Mrs. Frank N. SIMMONS and Mrs. Al P. HARPER. On June 17th, 1911, she was married to Mike PARSONS of this city who survives her. Mrs. PARSONS is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Perrin R. NOTT of Davenport, Mrs. Rhoda BRAMER of Farifield, Mrs. A. E. WILLIAMS of Onily Springs, Colo., Mrs. Lucille WHITAKER of Oakville, Iowa, Mrs. Laura DESPAIN of Fort Madison, and Mrs. Mary ROSS of Fort Madison. Time for the funeral has not been definitely set, but will probably be held from the home tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
