REED, lifelong resident of Fairfield, died this morning at University hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient since Feb. 21. He had been in failing health for four months. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoskins Funeral home in charge of the Rev. S. P. Williamson. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Before entering the hospital Red (sic. REED) made his home for the past year with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Frank SIMMONS, 406 South Sixth St. He was employed by the Dexter Co. before retiring several years ago. REED was born October 23, 1869 (sic. headstone inscription has 1871 for DOB year) in Jefferson county, the son of George and Malinda (sic. Philinda) NOTT REED. He was married to Grace Edna DAVIS in Fairfield in 1894. She preceded him in death Dec. 20, 1948. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Robert BARBER, Fairfield; Lawrence REED, Trenton, Mo.; John REED, Birmingham; Mrs. R. R. REIGHARD, Keosauqua; Capt. Charles REED, Tokyo, Japan; and Mrs. Robert CARLSON, Denver, Colo. Three sisters, Mrs. SIMMONS, Mrs. Ella LEATHERS and Mrs. Al HARPER, all of Fairfield, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren also survive. Four children and two sisters preceded him in death.
