Description	:	Sept 15, 1921 - Carroll Times - Philip Lenz, sr., one of the pioneers of Carroll county and for many years a farmer of Maple River, Carroll township, died Monday morning of senility, at the age of 82 years. For the last 10 years he had made his home with his son, John Lenz, in the west part of Sheridan township where he enjoyed his declining years in serene happiness and comfort. Read More	Sept 15, 1921 - Carroll Times - Philip Lenz, sr., one of the pioneers of Carroll county and for many years a farmer of Maple River, Carroll township, died Monday morning of senility, at the age of 82 years. For the last 10 years he had made his home with his son, John Lenz, in the west part of Sheridan township where he enjoyed his declining years in serene happiness and comfort. His great delight was the society of his grandchildren and the company of old time friends. Mr. Lenz was born in the Rhine province of Germany, January 27, 1839, and came to America in his early youth, arriving with his parents at Mendola, Illinois. They began farming and this became his life work. He was married to Anna Leisen at St. Joseph's church, Mendota, July 2, 1866, Rev. Peter Mick performing the ceremony. After farming near Mendota for a number of years they came to Carroll county, reaching here in the spring of 1878, and settling on a farm southwest of this city, which remained their home until after the death of the mother, December 8, 1911. He is survived by four sons and four daughters. They are: Mrs. W.H. Wahl, of Westfield, Ia.; Mrs. John O'Brien, of Maple River; Henry Lenz, of Wilmont, Minn.; John Lenz, of Carroll county; Philip V. Lenz, of Kimball, S.D.; Mrs. J. Husemann, of Lindsay, Neb.; Mrs. J.J. Nurre, of Bancroft, Ia., and M.J. Lenz. He is also survived by 40 grandchildren and four great grandchilIren. Philip Lenz was known as an honest, upright citizen, a good neighbor, a staunch friend and a loving husband and father. The remains were brought to this city at 9 o'clock this morning, folowed by a funeral cortege that taxed the capacily of the S.S. Peter and Paul's church, where solemn requiem high mass was celebrated, after which the procession reformed and proceeded to the Catholic cemetery where interment took place. He was buried beside the body of his wife.
