Description	:	Philip Mohr was born in Schlitz, Hessen, Germany, July 23, 1844. At the early age of 17 he came to America and located near Sandwich, DeKalb County, IL. There he became acquainted with and married Miss Frances Michlaek on January 20, 1867, both being at that time members of the German M.E. Church at Sandwich, IL. They resided on a farm there for 2 years and then moved to Victor, IA and lived in town 4 years before moving to the farm south of town, where they lived 24 years. At the early age of 17 he came to America and located near Sandwich, DeKalb County, IL. There he became acquainted with and married Miss Frances Michlaek on January 20, 1867, both being at that time members of the German M.E. Church at Sandwich, IL. They resided on a farm there for 2 years and then moved to Victor, IA and lived in town 4 years before moving to the farm south of town, where they lived 24 years. Nineteen years ago father and mother Mohr retired from farming and moved to Victor. After Mr. Mohr moved to Iowa he transferred his church membership to the German M.E. church in Lincoln Township, where it remained until his demise on Christmas day. Ten children were born to this union: George P., Frank J., Mrs. Anna (William) Carl, John H., Vincent C., and Oliver E. of Victor; Mrs. Emma (Albert) Carl and G. Cleveland, of Guernsey; Mrs. Lydia (Leon)Whitehead of Malcom, and Mrs. Eleanor (James)Atherton of Fort Collins, CO. All except Mrs. Eleanor Atherton were at the bedside when the angel of death claimed their father. Mr. Mohr came to this community as a youth of meager means and through hard labor and thrift became a man of means and influence. For a number of years he has been vice president of the Farmers Savings Bank. Besides his companion, who has been his faithful help mate for 52 years and cared for him tenderly, he leaves to mourn his children, 40 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers: Christian of Victor and George of Sandwich, IL.
