This was Jonas second marriage. His first was to Sarah McClure, married 1 May 1834, Grant Co., IN. Jonas and Sarah had one son William F. Carter. Phoebe's parents: Benjamin and Anna Johnson Sayre. Phoebe had 8 siblings; Daniel, Susan J., Mary, Margaret, Calista, Frances, Henry C. and Charles D. Sayre. Phoebe's Obit Grandma Carter, one of Nelson's oldest women, died at her home in North Nelson yesterday afternoon about half past four o'clock. Deceased would have been eighty-four years old had she lived until July 26th. She was born in Jamestown, New York, July 26th, 1822. A family of grown up children survive her. They are Frank Carter, Mat W. Carter, Dan Carter, Samuel Carter, Benjamin Carter, Ollie Carter, Ed S. Kennedy and Mrs. Emma J. Williamson, all of whom live here except Samuel who is out in Wyoming and Ollie who lives in California. The funeral services will be held from the Presbyterian church (sic) Friday afternoon at two o'clock. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May 17, 1906
