Description	:	Phyllis Elaine (Thurmond) Hoover, of Salina, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2017. She was born Aug. 24, 1927 near Abilene, Kan. to Frank and Ethel (Mourer) Thurmond. She married William Dale Hoover on Jan. 4, 1948 at First Methodist Church in Abilene. Phyllis was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a rural school teacher in the 1940’s and through her life participated in numerous social and charitable organizations. She was generous with her time and was devoted to her family and friends, and is remembered for her quiet inner strength of character. She was an active member... Read More	Phyllis Elaine (Thurmond) Hoover, of Salina, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2017. She was born Aug. 24, 1927 near Abilene, Kan. to Frank and Ethel (Mourer) Thurmond. She married William Dale Hoover on Jan. 4, 1948 at First Methodist Church in Abilene. Phyllis was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a rural school teacher in the 1940’s and through her life participated in numerous social and charitable organizations. She was generous with her time and was devoted to her family and friends, and is remembered for her quiet inner strength of character. She was an active member of United Methodist Church of the Cross, Lady Elks, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, the St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary, and Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority (Zeta Lambda Chapter) serving many years in officer positions in Lady Elks and ESA sorority. Survivors include: daughters, Denise Hoover of Salina, Janet Renich (Tom) of Shawnee, Elizabeth McMahon of Salina, and Anne Kauffman of Shawnee; seven grandchildren, Dale Kvasnicka (Renelle) of Salina, Kristel Cann (Steven Jr.) of Olathe, Sarah Small (Darin) of Olathe, Zach McMahon (Tess) of Toronto, Canada, Rachel Lamb and Grace, and Sarah Kauffman, all of Shawnee; and 5 great-grandchildren, Koi Kvasnicka, Kamryn, Jaida and Damian Small, and Felix McMahon. She was preceded in death by: her husband of 60 years William Dale Hoover; two sisters, Eileen Gibbs and Wilma Gene Flora; grandson Christopher Fagan; and great-granddaughter Paige Leann Fagan. Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Graveside services followed at Bethel Cemetery, Mink Road N.E., Abilene, Kan.
