Gantt, Jr.Resigns After Serving 35 Years On County Electoral Board By Elizabeth Wimer June 3, 1965 Price P. Gantt, Roseland farmer, resigned last month from the Nelson County Electoral Board be cause of poor health after serving for 35 years on the board. He was appointed by the late Judge Bennett Gordon in 1930, and now, as he sits on the porch of his comfortable home near Massies Mill he is trying to adjust to a less active life. Mr. Gantt has been prominent in the agricultural and political affairs of the county during his entire life here. He recently sold his herd of Hereford beef cattle and now rents his pasture land. He also owned an orchard which has since died out and been abandoned. Born in Scottsville, Mr. Gantt moved with his family to Nelson County when he was four years old. They lived on his mother's family farm and he attended Nelson schools and Miller School in Albemarle County. His parents were Lila Boyd Gantt and Price Perkins Gantt. After a short time working with the American Tobacco Company in Richmond, the depression of the thirties caused him to move back to the family farm, and he has remained here ever since. He met and married Miss Lucy Daniel of Middlesex, who was a teacher at Fleetwood School for many years. They built the home they now occupy. "I don't like to sit down," said Mr. Gantt. He is recuperating after a recent illness, and is looking forward to again engaging in one of his favorite pastimes, fishing. He is a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where Mrs. Gantt serves as organist; is a member of the Nelson County Men's Club and Lowesville Masonic Lodge No. 293, which meets at Massies Mill. He served as secretary of the electoral board. H. Lewis. Gantt Jr., a nephew of Mr. Gantt, was appointed to the electoral board to fill his place, and he, too, was elected secretary of it. There have been few important meetings of government officials when this loyal Nelson County citizen was not present, and he has been a familiar face at all of Nelson's celebrations, elections and commemorations. The front right stained glass window of St. James in Grace Episcopal Church, Massies Mill, VA is dedicated to him and his wife, Lucy, who had been the church organist.
