The young man shown in the Civil War uniform in the photograph, above, whose full name was Daniel Wesley Porter (1844-1863), was THE GRANDSON of Daniel Porter (1792-1836) & Catherine GAFFNEY Porter (1787-1883)! Daniel Porter (1792-1836), husband of Catherine GAFFNEY Porter, was a soldier in the WAR OF 1812. He, also, served as a "Private". [Unfortunately, many folks on the internet have confused these two Porter men, re-posting my old photograph, above, of the young Civil War soldier, Daniel Wesley Porter(1844-1863); and, mislabeling this old photo as his grandfather, the Daniel Porter (1792-1836), who served in the War of 1812 and was husband of Catherine Gaffney. To reiterate, this information is incorrect. The photograph of the young man in the Civil War uniform (above) is Daniel Wesley Porter (1844-1863), who died at the age of 19, while serving as a young soldier in the Civil War. HE NEVER MARRIED; AND, HE HAS NO DESCENDANTS. . Important: The reality is that no known photgraph exists, of the elder Daniel Porter (1792-1836), who was the husband of Catherine Gaffney Porter. .
