Harris died at his home on Amelia street suddenly Sunday night, aged 67 years. He was thought to be recovering from a long illness and was out on the streets Sunday afternoon. The deceased was born in Warren County, N.J., and came to Spotsylvania County with his parents prior to the war of 1861 and '65. When the first gun was fired in the war, he enlisted in the Confederate army, in Co. D, 30th Va. Regiment, and served through till the surrender at Appomattox. He came here about 1870, entered the mercantile business and has been successful. He was a member of the Baptist church and a good citizen. He is survived by his wife and four children -- Messrs. O. L., Preston L., Robt. H. and Miss Lillian Harris; eight brothers--Messrs. T. A., Charles A., Rosser A., Lee, Alfred, R. B., George and William Harris; one sister--Mrs. Mollie Whitlock. Funeral services will be held from the Baptist church Tuesday at 11 a. m., conducted by Rev. R. Aubrey Williams, and interment in City Cemetery.
