Peter Flitch died at his home in Buffalo township Friday afternoon after a long illness. He was born near Berne, Switzerland on January 1st, 1836 and came to America with his parents in 1854. Peter Flitch died at his home in Buffalo township Friday afternoon after a long illness. He was born near Berne, Switzerland on January 1st, 1836 and came to America with his parents in 1854. They settled near Burlington, Iowa and in 1861 Peter Flitch enlisted in Company G of the 27th Illinois Infantry. He was disabled during the war and received an honorable discharge. In 1869 he married Ida M. Coe and to this union seven children were born, four of whom survive the father. In 1870 he came to Kansas with his wife and infant son, homesteaded in Buffalo township on the farm upon which he died. Mr. Flitch united with the Baptist church in 1885 and lived an upright Christian life. He was one of the men who battled against the adverse conditions of pioneer days of grasshoppers, Indiana and droughts. The funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock and burial will be in the Fairview cemetery. The five sons who survive are George Flitch, Captain John Flitch of San Antonio, Texas, Fay Flitch of Scottsville and Karl Flitch of Concordia. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield) June 2020
