Herehe grew to manhood and attended the public schools, being graduated from the high school in the class of 1904. At that time the family removed to Lincoln, where Lloyd completed the course at the state university and received the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1907. He successfully taught in the high school at Grand Island for two years, at Hastings two years, and at Gooding, Idaho, for the same length of time. During his undergraduate years he was a member of the university track team and in his high school posistions had charge of the athletics. In 1914 he entered the employ of the National Bank of Commerce at Lincoln, where he remained for two years, and then accepted a posistion in the First National Bank at Cheyenne, Wyoming, which he held up to the time of his enlistment. In January of this year he enlisted at Omaha in the aviation department of the United States military forces, but his enlistment could not be accepted because the quota was full. On being notified of this, on April 6, 1918, he resigned his posistion in Cheyenne and enlisted in the United States Marine corps, and was sent to Mare Island, California, for training. On May 22, 1918, while engaged in the regular course of training in boxing, he accidentally fell and sustained a fracture of the skull, from which he died. His remains were brought from Mare Island for burial in the family plot in the Pawnee City cemetery. Funeral services were held at the Christian church, of which he was a member, on Tuesday afternoon, May 28, conducted by rev. A.E. Kelly of Mission Creek, a schoolmate of the deceased. Rev. J. A. Sinclair assisted in the services. Lloyd's untimely death came as a great shock to his family and friends. From early youth he exhibited manly qualities and possessed the faculty of making and holding fast friendships. Since the death of his father he had been a trusted staff and comfort and strength to his mother and sisters, and his going has broken one more link in a strong family chain. he came from a family whose loyalty and patriotism was never questioned. His Grandfather Davis, although slightly disqualified physically succeeeded in hiding the defect from recruiting officers and enlisted in the Civil War from Wisconsin and died in Salsbury prison. His Great-Grandfather, Andrew Raper, enlisted in the Civil war from Indiana and his Grandfather, Captain W. B. Raper, entered the Civikl War from Pawnee county. At the present time he has five cousins and a brother-in-law in the service of their country. He leaves to mourn his loss his mother and four sisters, Mrs. Myrle Woods of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Mildred Hall, of Camp Dodge, Iowa; Celi and Dorothy of Lincoln.
