Description	:	Born to Ruth and Richard Lawton, he was baptized, confirmed and married in the Union Presbyterian church. He attended the University of Iowa receiving two degrees, a BA in Political Science in 1963 and a Juris Doctorate in 1966. A member of the Iowa State Bar, he began his law career by serving a Judicial Clerkship with the Hon. William C. Stuart, Iowa Supreme Court. He attended the University of Iowa receiving two degrees, a BA in Political Science in 1963 and a Juris Doctorate in 1966. A member of the Iowa State Bar, he began his law career by serving a Judicial Clerkship with the Hon. William C. Stuart, Iowa Supreme Court. He then served as the Iowa State Court Administrator and as Circuit Executive for the US Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. He was the General Counsel for KVI Insurance Co. in Des Moines, Iowa before becoming a Professor of Law at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, from 1983 until his death. During his tenure he specialized in Corporations and Alternative Dispute Resolutions and taught classes in Negotiations and Settlement and Law Office Management. He was a noted scholar who authored four books and countless articles and served as Executive Director for the Frank G. Evans Center for Conflict Resolution. He was an Adjunct Professor at Texas A&M University and a visiting professor at University of Malta in Valletta, Malta and University of Bahcesehir in Istanbul, Turkey. Professor Lawton was an avid golfer, golfing multiple times a week until shortly before his death. His favorite course was Kings Barnes near St. Andrews, Scotland. R. Hanson Lawton was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Jane Nichols. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Roxine Lawton, his daughters, Ashley Lawton Dees and husband Phillip Dees, Abigail Lawton and husband Jan Olsen, his step daughter Tanya Korpi and husband Sandy Macleod; and grandchildren Reed Hanson and Ike Dees and Avey and Anna Macleod.
