Beckley was a hotel keeper. "Mrs. Rachel L. Beckley died the home of her son, A. L. "Mrs. Beckley was born Oct 30, 1835 in Putnam County, Indiana and was 77 years, 1 month, and 1 day old at the time of her death. She was united in marriage at Savannah, Davis Co, Iowa to Mr. Samuel Bercham Beckley. Mr. Beckley lost his life in the Savannah Mill in 1871. Mrs. Beckley was the mother of 5 children; Mrs. Mollie Stevens, Kutch, Colo.; Isaac Beckely, Kutch, Colo.; Mrs. Katie Baer of Billings, Montana; Mrs. Frances Billings of Hazen, Arkansas and A. L. Beckley of Bloomfield. Mrs. Beckley was a devout member of the Baptist Church and was a faithful Christian. She was a regular attendant at the services until she became an invalid 2 or 3 years ago. She was quiet and unassuming and was happier at home with her children about her". Robert Townley sent a photograph of "J.W. Botts Aunt Beckley". It is the same photograph identified by Tracy Winkler in her letter dated 9 Feb 1984.
