Mr. NEISWANGER was born November 19, 1835 in St. Clairsville, Belmont county, Ohio. Mrs. NEISWANGER was born June 9, 1839, in Thornton, Lestershire county, England. They were united in marriage March 19, 1863, in Fairfield and all their married life they have lived in Jefferson county. --------- Fairfield Daily Ledger-Journal Sunday Feb. 4, 1923 OBITUARY MR. AND MRS. SAMUEL NEISWANGER Samuel NEISWANGER, the son of Abraham and Sarah NEISWANGER, and the oldest of three children, was born in St. Clairsville, Ohio, November 19, 1835. At the age of nineteen he came to Jefferson county, Iowa, where he began farming northwest of Fairfield and continued in that occupation until thirteen years ago when he retired and moved to town. On March 16, 1863 he was united in marriage to Rachel Louise TILLSON (sic. TILSON) of Fairfield. She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth TILLSON (sic. TILSON) and was born in Thornton Lestershire, England, June 9, 1839. She was the youngest daughter of twelve children. When three years of age her parents came to this country and made their first home in Troy, New Jersey. Five years later they moved to Newark, Ohio. In the fall of 1854 they came to Iowa and located in Fairfield. Mr. and Mrs. NEISWANGER were the parents of five children: Fred, Kelly, Frank, Charles and Edgar, all of whom except Edgar, preceded the parents in death. Mr. and Mrs. NEISWANGER were quiet, industrious, kind and neighborly, whom to know was to respect and love. Mrs. NEISWANGER was a member of the Episcopal church here and regular in her attendance as long as the church had services. After the church disbanded she often attended the Methodist and Christian churches. Their wedded life of nearly sixty years was most beautiful in its love, confidence, comradeship and devotions. "They were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided." On Tuesday afternoon, January 30, after a brief illness they passed into the world beyond. Mrs. NEISWANGER's death coming at 12:55 and his at 8:00 oclock. Thus was the wish of this aged couple that neither of them might be left to mourn the other, fulfilled. They leave to mourn their departure Edgar and his wife and the three granddaughters, also four nieces, three nephews, ten grandnieces and ten grandnephews. Funeral service were conducted from the home Thursday afternoon, February 1, 1923, by Rev. R.H. Polly of the Christian church, assisted by Rev. C.L. Tennant of the Methodist church. The hymns used were "Going Down the Valley", "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me", and "Face to Face." The bodies were then interred side by side in the same grave in Evergreen cemetery. The pall-bearers - old friends and neighbors - were: J. Wilbur DOLE, Samuel DAVIDSON, Charles NELSON, Alfred ARMSTRONG, Louie BARROW and John KOONTZ. ------------- The Fairfield Evening Tribune Wed., Mar. 19, 1913 Page 5, col. 3. GOLDEN WEDDING.
