Description	:	Rachel (Ragnhild Jørgine Jørgensdtr) was born on the island of Karmøy (Åkra farm) to George and Caroline Rasmus. She came to America in April of 1887 and settled in Le Grand, Marshall, Iowa. She married Knud Tweed March 1887. They were the parents of six children, only two of whom (Keitha and Leland) survived to adulthood. After Knud's death, Rachel decided to join the rest of her family in Alberta, Canada. JAYES, Former LeGrand Woman Passes Away in Alberta. Leland Tweed, who is visiting among relatives and friends in the community, received a telegram Sunday conveying the sad news that his mother, Mrs. George Jayes, had died suddenly at her home near Condor, Alberta. The cause of her death was not stated. She was perfectly well when he left for Iowa Tuesday preceding Christmas and the news came as a severe blow to him. Rachel Rasmusson, daughter of George and Caroline Rasmusson, was born Dec. 2, 1879 in Norway, coming to this country when 7 years old. The family came direct to LeGrand and lived here many years prior to removing to Canada. Rachel attended the public school and grew to womanhood. She was married to Knut Tweed and lived on a farm west of Montour for a number of years. Six children were born to this union, four of whom died in childhood. The husband and father passed away in 1909. Her remaining children, Keitha, now Mrs. Fred Bott, and Leland have lived at Condor for the past fifteen years. In 1913, attracted by the prospect of cheap government land, the entire family - Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Rasmusson, Eli Anderson and family, Mrs. Tweed and children and Benedict Rasmusson, departed for the northland and have since made that their home. In Canada, Mrs. Tweed was married to George Jayes and there survive from this union three children - Gladys, Elmer and Nellie.
