Mills that this contributor can add to this memorial, assuming that an obituary for him in the first place, or at least even a brief note that he had died. ---------------- Husband of Elizabeth Parker Mills, married in Jefferson county, Iowa, on June 5, 1845 at house of Elias Covert in Liberty Twp.; William Elliott - Baptist Pastor. Ten children were born to them according to Elizabeth's obituary. Not all named, however. Two daughters, however, are known: Sarah Mills Lawson, and Minerva A. Mills Lawson. There is no Mills family group sheet for this particular family on file at the Fairfield Public Library in their genealogy collections. The full names of the children, especially those who were born and died prior to 1880 (before Iowa mandated those vital records to be recorded), may not be fully known, as some of the children may have been born and died between census years. Per the now weathered inscription, Ralph was aged about 58y 8m when he died on August 31, 1873. He likely died in Jefferson county, but there are no death records available for that era to confirm. ------------------- Note: Ralph and Elizabeth Mills are buried in this same plot. Their joint monument is toppled, however, and while the inscription facing for Ralph is visible, the inscription for Elizabeth is embedded in the ground and this contributor was/is not able to manually turn the fallen shaft over to capture an inscription view (the shaft is quite heavy). There are two now very weathered headstones also in this same Mills family plot, they are believed to be for two children. The inscriptions were read, as best as possible, in the early 1960's but are now too weathered to tell apart. One is believed to be for a son, Charles E. Mills, the other for a daughter, thought to be named "Nancy", though that is not now possible to confirm.
