He was born May 18, 1913, in Venice Township, Attica, to Edward J. and Elva Gertrude (Fast) Huffman. He married Marcella M. "Sally" (Ruffing) Huffman Nov. 21, 1945, in Reed Assumption Catholic Church. She survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Kathy (Tom) Schart of Delta, Cincy (L. John) Scheid of Curtis, Pat (Mike) Stevens of Huron, Brenda (Jack) Ziegler of Republic and Rhonda (Tom) Joseph of Bellevue; 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Clara Brown of Attica. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Randall and Marshall Huffman; a sister, Helen Babcock, and a daughter in infancy. Mr. Huffman was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a life member of V.F.W. Post 1238, American Legion Post 46 and Knights of Columbus Council 758, all in Bellevue. He was a graduate of Attica High School in 1930. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a mechanic and gunner on the B-25 aircraft, serving in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He completed 51 combat missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He worked in construction for several years before being employed as a mill wright at the former Ford Motor Co. plant in Sandusky, retiring Sept. 30, 1975. After retiring, he and his wife restored over 600 antique trunks, which were sold nationwide. He was still busy in his woodworking shop at age 90 having earned the title of "Mr. Fix-It." Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald F. Shea of the Sorrowful Mother Shrine officiating. Burial was made in Bellevue Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue, with military honors conducted by the Bellevue American Legion Post 46 and VFW Post 1238.
