Verle grew up on the family farm northwest of Superior, attended Sunnyside School and Portland Heights School northwest of Superior and graduated from Superior High School with the Class of 1959 and attended Milford Community College. After college, he drove a cream truck for Farmers Union Co-op Creamery and a milk truck for Elkhorn Valley Milk Assn. He also worked at the Champlin Station north of Superior, farmed and established his own McKevitt Trucking Co. He had required many friends through the trucking business. September 3, 1961, he married Peggy June Svendsen. To this union was born four children, Larry, Michelle, Barbara and Debra. On January 28, 1984, Verle was married to Linda West Burgess. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Superior. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ralph and Velma and a brother, Robert. Survivors include his wife; one son, Larry McKevitt and his wife, Sherry, of Alda, Nebraska; three daughters, Michelle Flower and her husband, Mike, of Pauline, Nebraska, Barbara Renken and her husband, Travis of Fremont, Nebraska, and Debra McKevitt and Chris Thompson of Grand Island, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Cameron McKevitt and Chris Thompson of Grand Island, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Cameron McKevitt and Mariah and Tatum Renken; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 1, 1994, at 11 a.m. from Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Michael Osberg officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Carol Shambaugh singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Footprints in the Sand" with Ruth Ann Moore as organist and accompanist. A tape of "Tears in Heaven" and "18 Wheels" were also played. Casketbearers were Rick McKevitt, Scott McKevitt, Ray Shaw, Joe Sullivan, Ron Porter and Richard Drudik. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Jones, Don Follmer, Don O'Dey, Butch Higer, John Yost, Frank Jones, Curtis Schiermeyer, Darrell Jensen and George Jensen. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery north of Superior. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements. The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, October 6, 1994; pg. 5.
