Description	:	Velma Irene (Porter) McKevitt, one of five children born to Wilford R. and Aley Mae (Richardson) Porter, was born February 4, 1904, in Lewiston, Nebraska, and passed away October 22, 1988, in Mary Lanning Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 18 days. She attended Pleasant Ridge School near Nelson and had spent her entire life in the Superior and Nelson communities. Velma was a past Grand Noble of Rebekah's, a member of the Sunnyside Club for over 40 years, and a member of the Presbyterian Church of both Superior and Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph on June 18, 1972; two brothers, Raymond and O.P. Porter. She is survived by her two sons, Robert and his wife Betty of Mason, Ohio. and Verle and his wife Linda of Superior; two sisters Mrs. Marie Troudt and Nine Mae and her husband Guy Bruce, both of Nelson; seven grandchildren, Scott of Dallas, Texas, Rick of Atlanta, Georgia, Tim of Mason, Ohio, Larry of Grand Island, Nebraska, Michelle Flower of Hastings and Debbie and Barbara of Superior; five great grandchildren, Robbie, Greg, Aaron, Troy and Toshie; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Marie McKevitt of Superior; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 25, at the Nelson United Community Church of Christ with Rev. Norman F. Brooks officiating. Music was provided by members of the Community Church Choir with Dot Ferebee as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Scott McKevitt, Rick McKevitt, Tim McKevitt, Larry McKevitt, Doug Porter, and Jack Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Porter, George Jensen, Darrell Jensen, Ray Shaw, Don O'Dey and Dan Shaw. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery.
