Callaway, 83 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Salina Regional Medical Center in Salina. He was born on April 9, 1929 in Hale, Missouri to Eugene and Nina (Dockery) Callaway. Ray graduated from Washington Co. High School in 1947. He married Rita M. Charbonneau on September 3, 1949 in Greenleaf, KS. Ray worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 42 years from 1948-1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, St. John's #113 Masonic Lodge, BPOE and Moose Lodge #1428. Ray was a loving husband to Rita and had been married for 62 years. He was a wonderful father, father in law and grandfather. He will always be remembered for his upbeat and positive attitude. He was ready and willing to help anyone who was in need. He enjoyed being with family and friends, playing golf and bridge or other card games. Ray was an active member of several community charitable organizations and helped deliver Thanksgiving meals for several years to families in Concordia. He was an active member of the post-graduate Elks Scholarship program and officiated high school sports for 30 years. He was an active promoter of youth sports, and coached baseball teams from Little League to American Legion. Ray was an avid Royals & K-State fan and enjoyed watching all sports. Ray is survived by his wife, Rita; sons, Ronald and wife Liz of Lawrence, Michael of Beaverton, OR; brother, Grover & wife Gerry, Sun City, AZ; grandchildren, Ryan, Laura, Kansas, Joe, Chance & Rita Callaway; great grandchild, Asher Callaway; 3 nieces & a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tues., July 10, in the First United Methodist Church in Concordia with Rev. Tessa Zehring officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde with Masonic Graveside Services by St. John's Masonic Lodge #113 AF & AM. Visitation will be held from 11 am to 9 pm with family greeting friends from 6-8 pm Mon., July 9, in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or Brown Grand Theatre Restoration-Act II in care of the funeral home.
