He was born Aug. 2, 1908, in Defiance County's Adams Township, the son of Joseph and Clara (Hornish) Bishop. In 1939, he married Marie Rath, who survives. Read More	Defiance Crescent-News Obituary July 21, 1998 Ray W. Bishop, 89, Defiance, died at 4:24 a.m. today in Laurels of Defiance. He was born Aug. 2, 1908, in Defiance County's Adams Township, the son of Joseph and Clara (Hornish) Bishop. In 1939, he married Marie Rath, who survives. He was a farmer, associate deputy with the Defiance County Sheriff's Office and a treasurer for 30 years at Jewell Grain. He was on the Adams Township building committee and a member of Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, Defiance Farm Bureau and Jewell Fire Department. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Calab (Veda) Disbrow of Archbold, and Naomi Blosser, Defiance; and a brother, Wayne, Defiance. Preceding him in death were a brother, Charles; and a sister, Alta Mayle. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren with Rev. Glen Whisler officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.
