Zeman – age 80, of Laurens, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa. Raymond Charles Zeman was born on November 13, 1930 in Pocahontas County, Iowa. He was the son of William and Lena (Wiese) Zeman. He attended country school at Lincoln # 9 and graduated from Palmer High School in 1948. On August 27, 1950, Ray married Marlys Schoon at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer. Ray worked for various elevators in Pocahontas, Graettinger and Laurens. He retired from the Farmers Coop in Laurens in 1992. In retirement Ray worked as greens keeper for the Laurens Golf and Country Club and he enjoyed working for the Smith-Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home. Marlys passed away in 2006. Ray was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He also served on the Laurens Golf and Country Club Board. Ray enjoyed golfing, camping and doing yard work. Survivors include his children, Gary (Sarah) Zeman of Spirit Lake; Gaylen (Sue) Zeman of Ringsted; Glenda Zeman of Brewster, MN and Greg (Angie) Zeman of Laurens; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Neilson of Rolfe; brothers, Gordon (Jo) Zeman of Minneapolis, MN; Richard (Pat) Zeman of California and Larry (Colleen) Zeman of Fort Dodge and sister-in-law, Geraldine Zeman of West Bend. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlys; son, Randall Eugene; brothers, Clarence and Harold "Bud" Zeman and sister, Laura Hodgell. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Laurens, Iowa with Pastor Jerry Wittmus officiating. Burial will be at Summit Hill Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at the Smith-Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home in Laurens, IA.
