Description	:	Rebecca CRAVEN is the fifth child of eight children born to Peter CRAVEN III and his wife Susannah "Ann" LANE. Rebecca was born in 1779. Rebecca's tombstone is engraved with an error "DIED 1846" in her death date. The "Descendants of Peter Craven" by Mary Craven PURVIS, page 147, states Rebecca died after 1860. No doubt the engraver reversed the last two digits of her death date. Her death date should be corrected to read "Died 1864, age 85". She married Tidence LANE, Sr. in 1798, a nephew of her mother. Note: The evidence of this engraving error is that Rebecca CRAVEN is listed in the 1850 Randolph County, North Carolina U S Census F/D 703/714, page 129. She is living alone, but listed in error as age 60 that should be age 71. She was most likely about age 19 when she married in 1798. Her first child was Tidence LANE, Jr born in 1799. See the note for a similar error also made on the tombstone for her husband Tidence LANE. The engraver must have had poor notes or lack of attention and confusion to his task. For whatever the reason for these errors perhaps they included possible poor eye sight due to cataracts or intoxication.
