VanEaton, in Sidney, Iowa, Sunday, March 18th, 1888, Rebecca VanEaton, aged 80 years, 7 months and 8 days." Thus we are called upon to chronicle the sad demise of one of Fremont county's oldest and most respected residents. Rebecca Lewis was born in Chilacotha (sic), Ohio, August 10th, 1807 and was married to Joshua VanEaton in Dunlapsville, Union County, Indiana, March 17th, 1825, from whence they moved to Boone County, Indiana, where they remained until 1855 when they moved to Sidney where she has made her home... Thus we are called upon to chronicle the sad demise of one of Fremont county's oldest and most respected residents. Rebecca Lewis was born in Chilacotha (sic), Ohio, August 10th, 1807 and was married to Joshua VanEaton in Dunlapsville, Union County, Indiana, March 17th, 1825, from whence they moved to Boone County, Indiana, where they remained until 1855 when they moved to Sidney where she has made her home ever since. Her husband died August 7th, 1867. She leaves ten children, a number of grandchildren and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the residence of her son, where she died, and were conducted by Rev. W.E. Howe, pastor of the M.E. church, of this place. Mrs. VanEaton has been a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist church for over fifty years. After the services a large concourse of friends followed her remains to the Sidney cemetery where they were laid to rest beside her husband.
