Edgar was born in Nowata County, Oklahoma, on Dec. 13, 1919, the son of Robert Lee and Sibbie Ann (Adamson) Rains. On May 1, 1937, Edgar was united in marriage to Eva L. Grogan. Read More	************************************* Charles Edgar Rains, 91, of Chanute, Kansas, more recently of Barone's Alzheimer Care Center, in Nevada, Missouri, passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, Missouri. Edgar was born in Nowata County, Oklahoma, on Dec. 13, 1919, the son of Robert Lee and Sibbie Ann (Adamson) Rains. On May 1, 1937, Edgar was united in marriage to Eva L. Grogan. She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 1997. He was united in marriage to Eleanor M. Gibson, on March 20, 1998. She survives of the home. Edgar joined the United Brethren Church in 1940. He received his Local Conference License in 1941. He received his ordination in 1951 at the annual conference held in Wichita, KS. He served churches in Manchester, OK, and Haven, Fredonia, Otterbein and Chanute in Kansas. He served the Chanute Church on three different occasions, a total of over 30 years. While at the Chanute church, it reached its highest membership. There were several building projects. He served 44 years in the pastorate, retiring on July 28, 1985. He was also district superintendent for 10 years as a pastor-superintendent. He served many offices at the district level. He was on the general board of administration for many years, also on the executive committee and four years on the church board of church planning, all out of Huntington, IN. Along with his wife Eleanor, he is survived by two daughters, Shelia Marlene Hanson of Richland, WA, and Myrna Sue Whitmer and husband Jim of Oklahoma City, OK; one son, Ronald L. Rains and wife Sharry of Fort Scott, KS; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eva; a son-in-law, Leo Hansen; a grandson, Gregory Hansen; three brothers, Hershel Rains, Harold Rains, and Robert Rains; and two sisters, Alta Wiggans and Mildred Branch. Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at the New Life United Brethren Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas. Memorials in his name may be made to Barone's Alzheimer Care Center of Nevada and may be left with the funeral home.
