Description	:	BURNSVILLE - The Rev. Grover Tony Griffin, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Burnsville, NC on Friday, November 19th, 2010. He was born in Surry County on December 4, 1949 to the late Grover Cleveland "Tobe" Griffin and Lois Puckett Griffin. Rev. Griffin graduated from Mount Airy High School, Appalachian State University, and Duke Divinity School. He was employed by Quality Mills before opening his own textile business in Mount Airy. Read More	BURNSVILLE - The Rev. Grover Tony Griffin, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Burnsville, NC on Friday, November 19th, 2010. He was born in Surry County on December 4, 1949 to the late Grover Cleveland "Tobe" Griffin and Lois Puckett Griffin. Rev. Griffin graduated from Mount Airy High School, Appalachian State University, and Duke Divinity School. He was employed by Quality Mills before opening his own textile business in Mount Airy. He served in various area churches, most recently serving as pastor of Windom, Celo, and Martin's Chapel Methodist churches in Burnsville. Rev. Griffin enjoyed his ministry as well as hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Frances Fox Griffin of Burnsville; daughter and son-in-law, Emily and David McPeak of Mount Airy; grandson Carter Griffin McPeak; sister and brother-in-law Teresa and Dean Marion of Mount Airy; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas Ray and Pat Griffin of Asheboro; step son and wife, Gary and Emily Jones; and step-grandson Hunter Jones all of Burnsville. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis "Bud" Cameron, the Rev. Arnetta Beverly, the Rev. John Boggs. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Service. There will be a Memorial Service on December 12, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at Windom United Methodist Church in Burnsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newdale Charge c/o Cynthia McIntosh, 1879 Cane River School Rd, Burnsville, NC 28714. He was a clergy member of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Tony began his ministry in 2000 serving as a lay speaker for Salem United Methodist and Epworth Methodist churches. In January 2001, he served Mt. Herman and Hatcher's Chapel, both of Surry County. In 2003, Tony was appointed to Hickory Ridge in Winston-Salem where he served for the following four years.
