RHODA E. MADDY Rhoda E. Simmons, eldest child of Leonard and Anna Simmons, was born September 24, 1856, near Attica, Marion county, Iowa, and departed this life at her home in Russell, Ia., on April 7, 1925, being 68 years, 6 months and 15 days. On November 18, 1875, she was united in marriage to Joseph Maddy and to this union were born six children, two having preceded her to the land beyond, Mary Maddy Duckworth and an infant son. The living children are William T., Henrietta J. Shimp and John L., all of Russell; and James M. of Fonda, Iowa. Her husband went before on January 2, 1917. She also leaves eighteen grandchildren, fourteen girls and four boys and one great-grandson, Clell McDonald of Russell. She has two surviving sisters, Mrs. Sallie Whitlatch, of near Knoxville and Mrs. Mary Monroe of Knoxville, Ia. She was converted when a girl of 15 under the ministry of Rev. Robinson and Rev. Steadwell in the old circuit days. She later united with the Methodist Episcopal church and brought her letter into the Russell M. E. church when Rev. Mrs. Roser was pastor here. She continued faithful to her Christian profession and loyal to the service of her Master and his church until her call came. As a girl she attended the country school where she was converted. She was a member of the W. R. C. and the W. F. M. S. Funeral services were held in the Russell Methodist church on Wednesday, April 8, 1925, at one o'clock in charge of the pastor, Rev. James Walls. Interment was in the Zion cemetery near Olmitz, Iowa.
