Mr. Stoner passed away Tuesday morning, July 16 at a Rochester, Minnesota hospital. He reached the age of 68 years, 10 months and 17 days. Richard Dean Stoner was born on August 30, 1927 at Plover, the son of Henry an Anna Shimon Stoner. He was raised and worked in the Rolfe area. As a young man he worked for Albert Lund and Lloyd and Rose Peterson in Laurens before entering the Navy. Dick served as a firefighter on a crash crew during his tour of duty in the U.S. Navy. He received his discharge in 1945. He was married to Nancy Edmundson at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Laurens on July 2, 1947 and they became the parents of five children, Linda, Becky, Debbie, Pat and Donn. Dick worked for M and JR Hakes and Scrivners as a warehouseman for 35 years. He operated a small appliance business while his children were young and also owned and operated the Dina Catering Service and Nancy’s Gifts with his wife. His love for craftsmanship inspired him to carve and assemble a working miniature carousel and become a member of the Miniature Carousel Builders Association. He also made many fine wood pieces for each member of his family. Mr. Stoner was a member of the American Legion and also the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four daughters, Linda, Mrs. Bob Drobinski of Hudson, Wisconsin; Becky, Mrs. Lynn Green of Louisville, Kentucky; Debbie Holmes of Rockville, Maryland and Pat, Mrs. Bruce Carlson of Overland Park, Kansas and one son, Donn of Hickman, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
