Mr. Slack had been visiting his brother, W. J. Slack of Walla Walla avenue and his mother accompanied by his wife and Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Slack of Waterville. Mr. Slack had not been well for years but was seemingly better on Sunday. As they were within two miles of Waterville, he suddenly groaned and fell on his brother, unconscious. Medical aid was given, but without avail. The funeral held yesterday was the largest ever held in Waterville. He was buried in the cemetery on the old family homestead near his home. Mr. Slack settled in Douglas county in 1889, 26 years ago. He was 58 years old. He leaves a wife and eight children, the youngest of which is five and the oldest 26, besides his mother and three brothers, W. J. Slack of Walla Walla avenue, Blair Slack of Stemilt Hill and H. I. Slack of Waterville. Mr. Slack was born in Ontario, Canada in 1856. He came to Douglas county in 1889 settling on a homestead near Alstown where he was living at the time of his death. A widow and nine children are left to mourn his loss. Wenatchee Daily World, July 16, 1915, p. 2 Richard G. Slack, who lives on a ranch southeast of Alstown, died Tuesday night of acute Bright's disease. He was in town Sunday and collapsed on the street and was taken temporarily to the home of Dr. Ellis, but he became so bad that it was impossible to move him and he passed away there Tuesday evening. The funeral will be held this afternoon from the family residence on the ranch at 1 p.m., Rev. Sykes preaching the sermon, and interment will take place in the Slack cemetery. Richard G. Slack was born in Ontario, Canada, and at the time of his death was 57 years, 10 months and 19 days of age. He came to Douglas county in 1889, twenty-six years ago, from Manitoulin island, the family having preceded him a year. A widow and nine children survive him and are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. Mr. Slack was highly esteemed by all who knew him and had a wide circle of acquaintances and friends who will sympathize with the family in their sad bereavement. Douglas Co., Press, July 1915
