Mother Maude died during the flu epidemic in 1918, one week after Richard's birth. He was then adopted by Edd and Lucinda "Lulu" Spencer-Young when he was three months old, and was welcomed home by a sister Dorothea Young-Thompson. Read More	---OBITUARY--- RICHARD MARTIN YOUNG Richard Martin Young was born October 8, 1918, to George and Mary Maude Moss-Martin in Harrison County near Missouri Valley, Iowa. Mother Maude died during the flu epidemic in 1918, one week after Richard's birth. He was then adopted by Edd and Lucinda "Lulu" Spencer-Young when he was three months old, and was welcomed home by a sister Dorothea Young-Thompson. Richard lived moved of his years in Harrison County, Iowa, attending Magnolia School and graduating from Woodbine High School in 1937. On April 24, 1942, he married Rhea Wandalee Peters. Two sons, Gerald Richard, in 1945, and Dick Leroy, in 1947, blessed their home. Along with farming, he was also employed as Deputy Treasurer of Harrison County for several years, then became part owner and builder of a 71-bed nursing home. Longview Home was completed in 1964 with Richard and Rhea both state licensed administrators. They lived in an apartment in the home. In 1969, they purchased all the shares of the home and enjoyed serving those who needed care in the surrounding communities. Richard was very devoted to this extended family as a health care provider. In 1974, they sold the nursing home and owned and operated the R&R Furniture store in Blair, Nebraska, until they retired to Naples, Florida. Due to his wife's health, they returned to Iowa in 1986 to be near their son Dr. Dick Young, who had residence in Knoxville, Iowa. He became a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in 1943 and served in many capacities in the church during his lifetime. He was a good farmer, and a good neighbor and was known as one who took excellent care of his farm animals. He passed away June 24, 2001, at the Westridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his birth parents, George and Maude Martin, his adopted parents, Edd and Lulu Young, siblings, Dorothea Young-Thompson, Blanche Martin Layton, Ruby Martin Fountain, Florence, Adeline and Ralph Martin and his son, Gerald Richard (1945-1949). He is survived by his wife, Rhea, of 59 years, his son, Dr. Dick Young and wife Sally, two grandsons, Jeffery Richard and Bradley Ryan all of Knoxville, Iowa.
